Your JamKazam profile is more important than you might imagine, and it's key to connecting with more musicians who share your musical interests to play more music in more sessions, have more fun and grow faster musically.
To view your profile, click the Profile link in the left navigation bar of the JamKazam website, or go to this URL in your browser: https://www.jamkazam.com/profile. You'll see your profile page (pictured below).

Your profile has a few sections, as follows.
Basics
This section is simple stuff like your name, location, and photo.
Instruments
Specify the instruments you play and at what level of expertise. If someone is looking for an intermediate to advanced bass player and that's in your profile, they can find you.
Genres
Select the genres of music you like to play. We have thousands of genres. You can select top-level genres like jazz, blues, or classical to enable broader connections, and/or select very niche sub-genres in which you have a particular interest to find and connect with other musicians who share your very specific affection.

Songs
If there are specific songs or pieces of music you know how to play and like to play, search and select/list them here. If the song name is a common one you can enter 'song name by artist name' - e.g. Kiss by Prince - to find the exact one you're looking for. And if you're a classical musician, you can check the "Search classical music" box and enter 'piece name by composer name' to find what you're looking for - e.g. String Quartet No. 13 by Beethoven'.

Artists
If there are specific artists whose catalog of music you like to play, search and select/list them here. Here again, classical musicians can check the classical box and search/select specific composers.

Interests
This section lets you note special interests like forming an online band, co-writing music with others, and teaching or taking music lessons.

OK, so now you understand the information you can add into your profile. But why do it and how does it help you?
Matchmaking Features!
Once you have taken the time to fill out your profile well, it sets you up to be found and connected to musicians and sessions in a wide variety of ways. These are all new matchmaking features that JamKazam has built as part of our new release - important things that have been missing from online music platforms forever. It's been just as hard to find the right people to play with as it has been to overcome the technical challenges to play online. Here are some matchmaking examples.
- Sessions - When community members start immediate sessions or schedule future sessions, they can now create a setlist of specific songs they plan to play, or a set of artists they plan to play (e.g. a grunge session focused on Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, and Alice in Chains), or genre they plan to focus on (e.g. modal jazz). If this session data matches things you have tagged in your profile, you'll get a notification, and you can click to view the session, RSVP that you plan to attend, and even chat with the host and other musicians before the session has begun.
- Searches - Our new musician search lets community members search for other musicians by instrument and latency, but now also by specific songs, artists, and genres. So if someone is looking for musicians who love to play Pink Floyd songs, and if you have Pink Floyd selected as an artist on your profile, they will find you, and they can message to see if you're interested in playing together.
- Group Suggestions - Even if other community members don't proactively search you out, JamKazam can automagically find common themes and send you periodic suggestions of groups that make sense to connect. For example, we can send a group of 10 musicians who play a variety of electric guitar, bass, drums, and keys, and who like Tom Petty, and who have good latency amongst the group a suggestion that they may want to connect and play sometime. Or we can send a group of 10 musicians who play violin, viola, and cello, and who like Caroline Shaw compositions, a notification that they may want to connect.
- New Members - As new members join JamKazam each week, they fill out their profile, and then we can send you an email letting you know about new members who like to play the same songs/artists/genres as you, and who have low latency connections to you to support great sessions.
