PLEASE NOTE: Do not use the instructions in this help article yet. We've published this help article to enable development of our new video features, but we have not yet released these features, so this help article will be a dead end. Coming soon! Just not quite yet.

If you want to use JamKazam to make audio+video recordings of your sessions or broadcast your sessions to an audience through YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, etc, then you will need to install the OBS Studio application and a JamKazam plugin for OBS. This help article explains how in two steps.

Step 1 - Installing OBS Studio

Step 2 - Installing the JamKazam Plugin for OBS

Step 1 - Installing OBS Studio

OBS Studio is a popular, powerful open source software program that has terrific video processing capabilities. JamKazam has integrated our application with OBS to provide our users with best-in-class video recording and broadcasting features. Because OBS can change its app at any time and in any way it chooses, which can break our integration, JamKazam must develop, test, and certify the JamKazam app for use with a specific version of OBS Studio from time to time. The current validated version of OBS Studio is 30.2.3.

To install this specific version of OBS Studio, go here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/obs-studio.mirror/files/30.2.3/

You will see the screen pictured below.

You are going to want to click the big green "Download Latest Version" button - but don't do this. Instead scroll down this page until you see the list of available downloads in the table (see screenshot below).

You will want to download one of the three versions in the list/screenshot above with the big blue arrows, as follows:

  • If you're on a Windows computer, click "OBS-Studio-30.2.3-Windows-Installer.exe".
  • If you're on a Mac with Apple silicon, click "OBS-Studio-30.2.3-macOS-Apple.dmg".
  • If you're on a Mac with Intel silicon, click "OBS-Studio-30.2.3-macOS-Intel.dmg".

When the download is complete, double click on the file you just downloaded.

  • If you're on a Windows computer, you'll see a typical installer. Follow the on-screen instructions to install OBS Studio.
  • If you're on a Mac, you'll see the window pictured below. Drag and drop the OBS icon onto the Applications icon to install OBS Studio.

Step 2 - Installing the JamKazam Plugin for OBS

Before installing the JamKazam plugin for OBS, be sure you have followed the instructions in Step 1 above in this help article to install OBS Studio. OBS Studio must be installed on your computer before you install the JamKazam plugin.

To install the JamKazam plugin for OBS, go here: https://www.jamkazam.com/public/obs-plugin-download

You will see the screen pictured below.

This page automatically detects which version of the plugin you need for your computer. You can look at the button and the "Need a different version?" links to the right of the button to make sure the button is going to give you the right version - i.e. for macOS (Apple Silicon), macOS (Intel Silicon), or Windows.

Click the big blue button to download our OBS plugin installer. When the download is complete, double click on the downloaded file, and then follow the on-screen instructions of the installer to install the OBS plugin.

Once you have successfully installed OBS Studio and the JamKazam plugin for OBS, you are ready to use the video recording and broadcasting features of JamKazam.
